Tiles Inspired by Alphonse Maria Mucha La Pensee:: Thought La Verite :: Truth La Memoire ::Memory 8x20 inch tiles $225 each These tiles are inspired by the beautiful poster art by Alphonse Maria Mucha. Mucha was born in 1860 in South Moravia, and moved to Paris in 1887 where he studied. He did his first Poster Art in 1894 for the famed Parisian theatre actress, Sara Bernhardt. Mucha produced paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewelry, carpets, wallpaper, and theatre sets. His work became known as the 'Mucha Style' and is also noted for defining the elements of Art Nouveau.
The idea in working with these images, is to explore the complexity of design, his interweaving narratives of foliage, of architectural space and of the human place in it. Many of the images are, to my mind, representatives of Archetypes of the human condition. What I have done in these pieces, is explore the image of the Woman, the idea of the Divine Goddess, or Isis Unveiled...explore the purpose of the image, and consider its symbolism.
All the tiles are hand drawn, and hand carved to create the pattern of design, and are hand pressed and painted by hand with glaze, so to interpret the imagery in my own way. I do hope that you enjoy these images. Please note that these are not printed transfer images, they are all hand drawn, carved and hand painted.
